CAMPBELL >> Watsonville High goalie Isaac Frias not only made the save of his of his life in the 76th minute of his team’s playoff game on Ash Wed it may have been the save of his soccer coach’s life, too.

“That was one of the best I’ve seen in a long time, maybe one of the best ever,” remarked Roland Hedgpeth, who has led the Wildcatz to eleven Central Coast Section titles in his 37 years as Watsonville’s head coach. “I think that put a spark in us.”

Some Wildcatz dropped to their hands and knees when the final whistle sounded thirty seconds after Ferro’s decisive tally, some hugged, and et genuflected and made the sign of the cross as they looked skyward.
