Stem Cells Hold Promise, Peril in Treating Seniors' Eye Disease

Wed Wed Mar 15 — Stem cells may offer whole new hope for people losing their vision to age-related macular degeneration but that promise can come with some peril, whole new research shows.

In one report, 3 older women were permanently blinded at a Fl. eye clinic that performed not proven stem cell treatments on their eyes in 2015, commented senior study author Drive Jeffrey Goldberg. He’s chair of ophthalmology for the Byers Eye Institute at Stanford University in Palo Alto, Calif.

The study appears in the March sixteen issue of the Brand new England Journal of Medicine .
